When you're restless

Here are today's two suggestions of what to do when you're restless.
  1. Memorize Scriptures (speak it outloud and try walking while you do it).
  2. Pray: lost friends, family; brethren here and abroad; (Easter services tomorrow); church leadership; church unity; open doors for the Gospel's advancement

Restoration

O soul of mine, downcast in shame,
Only your little faith to blame,
For had you turned to Christ and fled,
Or held fast to God and shed your fear,
You would know His presence nearer.

Now He is not very far, but waits for you to call,
Be reminded of His faithfulness to cleanse you of your fall.
For He is just and if He frees,
Free indeed is that man, redeemed,
God is perfecting His workmanship until His return is seen.

So be not troubled and do not despair beyond all hope,
For if He can save, then cleansing you is within His scope.
But the power is His, and so to Him you must cling,
No other, not you, nor another, can sustain your path aright.
Only God can uphold and guide you by His might.

So pray: Lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory. Forever. Amen.

Books

You will find much better reviews elsewhere, but here are my brief opinions/suggestions.

John Owen's:
Sin and Temptation

Definitely read it - choose the abridged version (200pgs) with the introduction by J.I. Packer

Warren Wiersbe's: 50 People Every Christian Should Know

It's fairly good. About 5-9 pages are given for each individual, and it's mostly a primer for other texts you might be interested in reading. It's good for identifying individuals whose biographies and works you would enjoy reading and studying.

John Sailhamer's: The Meaning of the Pentateuch

Wow. I'm only 100 pages into this monumental work, but I'm thoroughly enjoying it and learning a great deal of wonderful and helpful information.

Andrew Bonar: Biography of Robert Murray M'Cheyne

Great.

Several authors: The catholicity of Protestantism

Fantastic book. If you can find a copy, purchase it.

He's the forever King.

Infinite, eternal,
Everlasting, immortal,
You are the God of all.

From the first words
To "it's finished"
You have done Your will.

None can stay You.
None can move You.
You are Who You are.

All things are from You.
All things "are" by You.
All things are to You, forever.

Goodness is of You.
Mercy only comes from You.
Blessed be the Lord of Glory.

Amen
